Inheritance of Interorganizational Workflows: How to Agree to Disagree Without Loosing Control?
نویسنده
چکیده
AbstracL Internet-based technology, E-commerce, and the rise of networked virtual enterprises have fueled the need for interorganizational workftows. Although XML allows trading partners to exchange information, it cannot be used to coordinate activities in different organizational entities. Business-la-business processes are hindered by the lack of a common language to support collaboration. This paper describes the P2P (Public-To-Private) approach which addresses some of the problems using a notion of inheritance. The approach consists of three steps: (1) create a common understanding of the interorganizational workflow by specifying the shared public workflow, (2) partition the public workflow over the organizational entities involved, and (3) for each organizational entity: create a private workflow which is a subclass of the relevant part of the public workflow. This paper shows that this approach avoids typical anomalies in business-to-business collaboration (e.g., deadlocks and livelocks) and yields an interorganizational workflow which is guaranteed to realize the behavior specified in the public workflow.

The P2P Approach to Interorganizational Workflows
This paper describes in an informal way the Public-To-Private (P2P) approach to interorganizational workflows, which is based on a notion of inheritance. The approach consists of three steps: (1) create a common understanding of the interorganizational workflow by specifying a shared public workflow, (2) partition the public workflow over the organizations involved, and (3) for each organizatio...
متن کاملLoosely coupled interorganizational workflows: : modeling and analyzing workflows crossing organizational boundaries
Today's corporations often must operate across organizational boundaries. Phenomena such as electronic commerce, extended enterprises, and the Internet stimulate cooperation between organizations. Therefore, it is interesting to consider workflows distributed over a number of organizations. Interorganizational workflow offers companies the opportunity to re-shape business processes beyond the b...
متن کاملVerification of Itineraries for Mobile Agent Enabled Interorganizational Workflow
We apply mobile agents to synchronize workflows of different organizations resulting in an interorganizational workflow. This paper models agent enabled interorganizational workflows using Interorganizational Workflow Nets. This model provides a means to verify the correctness (and, so the viability) of the itineraries of agents used in enacting interorganizational workflows. We also outline an...
متن کاملPolynomial Time Verification of Behavioral Inheritance for Interworkflows Based on WfMC Protocol
The Workflow Management Coalition, WfMC for short, has given a protocol for interorganizational workflows, interworkflows for short. In the protocol, an interworkflow is constructed by connecting two or more existing workflows; and there are three models to connect those workflows: chained, nested, and parallel synchronized. Business continuity requires the interworkflow to preserve the behavio...
متن کاملReflections on a Decade of Interorganizational Workflow Research
The Public-To-Private (P2P) approach presented at CAiSE in 2001 provides a correctness-by-construction approach to realize interorganizational workflows. A behavioral inheritance notion is used to ensure correctness: organizations can alter their private workflows as long as these remain subclasses of the agreedupon public workflow. The CAiSE‘01 paper illustrates the strong relationship between...
